Description
The Cressi SL Star range of pneumatic spearguns has been in production for many years now, and they have won worldwide fame for their excellence in terms of robustness, reliability, precision and powerful shooting.
Some people are unaware that once pneumatic / Air spearguns are pumped up and pressurised they do not ever need to be pumped up again after the first time. They do not discharge/dispel any air on firing as this is a common misconception. As you load the gun you are compressing the existing air inside the gun, compressing it with your strength until it is loaded. Then upon shooting the compressed air propels the spear out of the gun but the air is trapped inside the gun due to its O-ring seals.
So taking note of the above information if a diver did not have the strength to load a full max charged airgun, he could release some air through the purge valve to a level in which he could load the gun. This enables the gun to be custom suited to diverse learning or divers a little weaker in strength than others. As the pressure is always the same the spear will always behave the same with each shot helping you master its accuracy and hitting your target time and time again.
Another point to note is the shaft is propelled by a piston directly pushing behind it upon firing. This gives the shaft a TRUE straight projection to where it was aimed to give you the best chance of hitting your target. The pack includes – Speargun, S/S shaft, Mako Head, Line slide kit and cord, Pump and instruction booklet.
When choosing your speargun length you need to take into account your target species and the visibility of the water you dive in. The shorter SL Star40 spearguns are very maneuverable due to their short length but as they are shorter they have a shorter shooting range. They are ideal for shooting in caves and in around the reef holes for fish and crayfish (Depending on your state laws). The SL Star 70, however, has a longer shooting range in the water yet its length can hinder its ability to get into small reef caves that the SL Star40 can. The SL Star range also has a 55 model which is the in-between size of the 40 and 70 models if you want a more versatile size speargun.
When travelling by air the plane companies prefer you to discharge all the air pressure from your speargun. This can be done at the rear of the gun and is shown in the included instruction booklet. On arriving at your destination you can then fit the pump to the gun and the same instruction booklet will tell you how many pumps your gun model will require to get it to full pressure. Once you have pumped it up, it will never need pumping up again until you decide to let all the air out of it when flying on planes again.
